Korea adds one more handset to its array of Samsung phones. Samsung uncloaked the Galaxy A (SHW-M100S) smartphone for the Korean market. The new smartphone is claimed to be the company’s first Android-run smartphone released in Korea. In addition to the launch of Galaxy A, Samsung rolled out a range of Android applications on its own application store, Samsung Apps.
Samsung Galaxy A is compatible with the video telephony attribute, a feature available for the first time in Android-run gadgets. The device adorns a vibrant 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display. It is also equipped with a 720MHz processor, terrestrial DMB, and DivX support based on Android 2.1. These features may prove to be quite beneficial for Korean mobile users who are known to have a preference towards watching live TV and playing video games on their mobile devices. Other attributes such as Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Talk are also present in the smartphone.
JK Shin, president and head of Mobile Communications Business, commented, “I believe that Samsung will open up a new smartphone experience in the Korean market with a launch of Galaxy A. We will continue to expand our smartphone line up as well as various smartphone applications for the democratization of smartphone.”
The phone boasts of a 5 megapixel camera with video facilities. The device includes A-GPS, Bluetooth technology, USB v2.0, Wi-Fi and 1500 mAh battery. This handset encompasses 590 MB internal memory and its external memory slot is up to 8GB. The dimensions of this smartphone are 119.5 x 59.8 x 12.5mm.
Samsung ensures smartphone users can pick from an extensive variety of value-added services on-the-go by offering Android applications via Samsung Apps. The company is intending to deliver over 100 Android applications by May 2010, tailored for the Korean market and will carry on extending this number for a wide variety of choices.
Galaxy A users can access the Android applications obtainable from Samsung Apps, T-Store by South Korean carrier SK Telecom and Android Market. Samsung Galaxy A is scheduled to hit the Korean markets by this April end.
